Naidu extends ban on People's WarShireen in Hyderabad The Andhra Pradesh government has extended the ban on the People's War Group and six other frontal organisations of the Naxalites for another year. The organisations are: the Rythu Coolie Sangham, Singareni Karmika Samakhya, Viplava Karmika Samakhya, Radical Students' Union, Radical Youth League and All-India Revolutionary Students' Federation. The ban was extended from July 23, 1999, under the AP Public Security Act by declaring the organisations as unlawful associations. This follows the PWG's decision to enforce its call for the boycott of the forthcoming elections for the Lok Sabha and the state legislative assembly. The Janashakti group of the Naxalites, which is also engaged in violent activities these days, has seconded the call. The ban was first imposed on May 21, 1992, by the N Janardhana Reddy government. After returning to power in December 1994, N T Rama Rao suspended it for a few months in 1995. But Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who took over in September 1995, reimposed the ban in July 1996 for a period of one year. |
