Rs 4.3 billion package for DD and AIR in JKThe Union Cabinet on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 4.3 billion for improving the Doordarshan and All India Radio services in Jammu and Kashmir. Doordarshan will set up two high-power transmitters each at Naushera, Tithwal, Kupwara, Gurez and Samba for DD1 and DD2, besides providing mobile low-power transmitters at 12 locations and new very low-power transmitters at 60 locations. The AIR will set up nine relay stations and upgrade three existing transmitters at a cost of Rs 484 million. The upgradation of existing transmitters for DDI and DD2 at Amritsar would cost Rs 200 million. The studio at Leh is estimated at Rs 50 million. In the current financial year the government would spend Rs 997 million, while in the coming year around Rs 1.33 billion would be shelled out. Last year, the government had spent Rs 329 million. UNI
