Governor Mahabir Prasad administered the oath of office and secrecy to Chautala at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh. Prominent among those present at the swearing in ceremony were Defence Minister George Fernandes, Information and Broadcasting Minister Pramod Mahajan, former deputy prime minister Devi Lal, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Union Minister of State for Industries Sukhbir Singh Badal and senior Haryana government officials. This is the fourth time that Chautala has taken over as the Haryana chief minister. Replying to a question about ministry expansion, Chautala said he would do it after the assembly session. Chautala said he would take into confidence all his supporting parties -- the Bharatiya Janata Party, the breakaway Haryana Vikas Party-Democratic and the independents -- before expanding his ministry. Replying to a question about the implementation of the hitherto unimplemented BJP manifesto in the state, he said he would now implement the agenda of the National Democratic Alliance of which he was a part.
