JD panel to discuss Patel proposalThe crucial political affairs committee meeting of the Janata Dal, which will take up among other things the proposal of Karnataka Chief Minister J H Patel that the party should join hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance, began in New Delhi this morning. The PAC, a body of senior leaders, however appears to be heavily loaded against Patel's initiative, party sources said. The meeting is being attended by two former prime ministers -- H D Deve Gowda and I K Gujral -- and S R Bommai, Dr Jaipal Reddy and Ram Vilas Paswan. Prior to the commencement of the meeting, Patel had a telephonic talk with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lok Shakti chief Ramkrishna Hegde. UNI
