US to have 'direct role on Kashmir': Pak

E-Mail this report to a friend

"There is no question of withdrawal by Pakistan as we have not crossed the Line of Control," Pakistan Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Siddique Kanju has told the National Assembly.

He said that Sunday's Washington meeting of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief and US President Bill Clinton has ''averted a wider conflict in a nuclear environment''.

The Nation of Pakistan also quotes him as saying that the US has for the first time agreed to ''play a direct role in the search for a final settlement of the Kashmir dispute''.

He claimed the meeting has ''affirmed the correctness of Pakistan's position''.
