Cop chief of fake PWG dismissed for extortion activities

A police inspector who led a fake People's War Group and allegedly extorted money from people was dismissed from service, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister A Madhava Reddy announced in the state assembly today.

Replying to a question, the minister agreed to the Opposition's demand for an inquiry by the Anti-Corruption Bureau into the policeman's assets.

Reddy also conceded the demand for deputing a senior officer of the rank of inspector-general from the state police headquarters to find out why the inspector was released soon after his arrest on January 9.

P Nageswara Rao of the Communist Party of India said that after his release, the inspector went to his residence to shift currency worth Rs500,000 in suitcases. The inspector has amassed wealth to the tune of Rs15 million, he claimed.

Reddy said the reserve inspector, N Krishna Reddy, had been suspended from service on two earlier occasions for different crimes, including the molestation of a tribal woman.

The reserve inspector was arrested after a businessman from Khammam filed a complaint that the 'PWG' had demanded Rs100,000 for "party funds". The members of the fake PWG used the inspector's service revolver while extorting money.
