In my few days in Erasama, hit so devastatingly by the October cyclone, I got a fair overview of the situation. The awesome, frightening power the storm must have packed was evident everywhere I looked: from the bizarre sight palm trees presented to downed telephone poles. Even after several days cremating or burying carcasses -- human and animal -- many were still lying about, easily seen. Relief operations -- from disposing of the bodies to distributing supplies -- were in full swing, even if there were the occasional glitches.
For me, those four days were tragic, yet strangely encouraging and deeply moving. I had my camera with me. Perhaps these photographs I took will give you an idea of what happened and was happening in Erasama.
