Left parties will decide on govt's contours

E-Mail this report to a friend

Left parties are likely to hold a joint meeting to decide the contours of the next government soon after the arrival of West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu tonight.

Senior Marxist leader Somnath Chatterjee made it clear that the CPI-M would support a Congress-led coalition from outside.

Asked about the reservations of the left parties on the candidature of Sonia Gandhi as the next prime minister, Chatterjee said it was the internal matter of the Congress party.

Expressing satisfaction on the ouster of the Vajpayee government, he said it would be highly unfair if the outgoing coalition charged the opposition with toppling their government as the ruling coalition had left no stone unturned to cobble its majority, ''but they failed so what we can do.''

He said the CPI-M was in contact with the RSP and Foward Bloc.
