President tells Vajpayee to show his strengthIn a major setback to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government, President K R Narayanan tonight directed Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to seek a vote of confidence from the Lok Sabha following the withdrawal of support by two constituents of the alliance. In a cryptic communique, Rashtrapati Bhavan said, "The President has advised the prime minister to seek a vote of confidence in the Lok Sabha." The communique, however, did not set any time-frame for the vote of confidence, though Parliament is scheduled to resume its Budget session tomorrow. UNI |
