Vajpayee, Advani call on PresidentPrime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today met President K R Narayanan and is understood to have apprised him of the latest political situation in the country. Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani and Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Kumaramangalam accompanied him. The meeting lasted 40 minutes. The prime minister is reported to have conveyed his government's views on the test-firing of the Agni II missile yesterday. The meeting assumes significance in view of the threat of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam to pull out of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government, leading to a political crisis. The coalition government is making serious efforts to enlist the support of various smaller parties to prove its majority in the Lok Sabha in case it is asked to seek a vote of confidence. The prime minister and the home minister had talks with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief M Karunanidhi to seek his support for the government. UNI |
