Khalsa Panth tercentenary fete launchedThe week-long tercentenary celebrations of the founding of the Khalsa Panth were formally launched this afternoon in Anandpur Sahib with the arrival of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee from Chandigarh. The prime minister was accompanied by Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani, Union Fertiliser Minister Surjit Singh Barnala, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sharad Pawar and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Manmohan Singh. The leaders were received at the Deshmesh Academy helipad by Punjab Governor B K N Chhibber, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his ministerial colleagues besides Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee president Jagir Kaur. The prime minister paid obeisance at the Takht Kesgarh Sahib, where the Tenth Guru Govind Singh had founded the Khalsa Panth three hundred years ago. He was honoured with a siropa (robe of honour) by Takht Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Manjit Singh. Other VIPs who accompanied him also paid their obeisance in the sanctum of the gurdwara before proceeding to the Khalsa Heritage Memorial Complex whose foundation stone was laid on November 22 last year.
