ASSEMBLY POLL '98
|
'What kind of freedom do I have in this country?' asks AmteEminent social activist Baba Amte, who had joined a Narmada Andolan protest outside the ministry of social justice, was allegedly lifted by the police and left unattended at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in New Delhi. The police took him away in an ambulance, left him on a cot at the entrance of the hospital emergency ward and went away, the ailing Magsaysay award winner told UNI. ''I was brought to the hospital against my will. It is wrongful confinement. What kind of freedom do I have in this country?'' he asked. ''Even if the police had left me in the outpatient ward, I would have been taken care of by the doctors. But the police just dumped me at the entrance and went away,'' he complained. Doctors were unable to attend to him as ''I had not been admitted. In my life, I never imagined that anybody would treat me in such a manner,'' he said. UNI
