ASSEMBLY POLL '98
|
TDP will continue with its anti-Congress standThe Telugu Desam continues to maintain its anti-Congress stand irrespective of any possible political changes at the Centre, according to the TDP Parliamentary Party leader Yerran Naidu. Addressing a press conference today, Naidu said he did not foresee any threat to the Vajpayee government in the wake of the recent political developments in relation to the AIADMK attitude. "How can I visualise a hypothetical situation and react with no imminent danger to the BJP-led government now as the AIADMK has not yet announced withdrawal of its support to the government?" Naidu told reporters when asked about his reaction to the political developments. The issue-based support to the BJP- government would continue, he said. The party general secretary Lal Jan Basha, leader of the group in the Rajya Sabha Alladi Rajkumar and Rajya Sabha member C Ramachandraiah, who were also present at the press conference, said Telugu Desam as a regional party would not allow our "pregnant enemy", the Congress party to stage a Comback through backdoor method. The TDP leaders said the party was for stability at the Centre and not for midterm polls as the nation could not afford to hold polls again. The party, they said, would chalk out its stand and course of action if somebody tabled a no-confidence motion in Parliament. Asked whether politics were discussed during the dinner he had with Prime Minister Vajpayee the other day, Naidu said nothing was discussed there. "I simply had food and came out and no politics as it was neither a coordination committee meeting nor a party to party meeting," he said. They maintained that nothing could happen to Vajpayee government as several internal contradictions within the parties supporting the Congress would not allow the party to form an alternative government.
