BJP willing to ally with Samata, Akalis in Rajasthan
Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party politician Bhairon Singh Shekhawat today indicated that the party's option for an electoral understanding with its coalition allies at the Centre, the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Samata Party, for the November 25 assembly elections are open.
Shekhawat, who has been projected as the BJP's chief ministerial candidate again, said the party would decide about sharing some seats with friendly parties like the SAD and the Samata Party after discussions with the central leadership in New Delhi.
Expressing confidence that the BJP will win a majority in the assembly and form its third successive government in the state, Shekhawat said he would go to New Delhi with the list of prospective candidates where a final decision will be taken by the central election committee on November 3.
The BJP will launch an intensive campaign in the state from November 6, he said.
Senior party leaders, including Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and BJP president Shashikant 'Kushabhau' Thakre, will campaign for the candidates, he said.
Vajpayee has already addressed three meetings at Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur.
Meanwhile, official sources said Chief Election Commissioner Manohar Singh Gill is scheduled to visit Rajasthan on November 6.
Gill will stay in the state for a couple of days to review the preparations for smooth and peaceful polling.
