Shiela Dixit gets Sonia to cancel election meeting in Gole MarketCongress president Sonia Gandhi's rally tomorrow in the Gole Market constituency, from where Delhi Pradesh Congress president Shiela Dixit is contesting, has been cancelled, senior Delhi Congress leaders announced today. Leader of the opposition in the assembly Jag Pravesh Chandra and Delhi Congress spokesperson Brij Mohan told the media today that the meeting was being cancelled in view of a ''request'' from Dixit to the AICC chief. According to the party leaders, Dixit had informed Gandhi that the Congress was in a strong position in Gole Market, where the DPCC chief is pitted against the BJP's sitting MLA Kirti Azad. She urged Gandhi not to cut short her campaign in Madhya Pradesh for the Gole Market meeting. ''Dixit said she did not like the fact that Gandhi was coming to New Delhi just to address a meeting in her constituency,'' the Congress leaders said. Following this ''request'' the meeting was cancelled, they added. However, Gandhi would address a public meeting in Shahdara in East Delhi on November 23, as scheduled. Meanwhile, the Delhi Congress today expelled another rebel candidate Nathu Singh for six years for contesting against the official nominee in Ghonda constituency, it was announced. UNI |
