Jaya questions Karunanidhi's actions on CauveryAll India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham chief J Jayalalitha today condemned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunandihi for leaving the matter of inflow of Cauvery water from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu, to be decided by the prime minister, which went against the tribunal's interim award. In a strongly-worded statement, the former chief minister said the inflow at Mettur from Karnataka should be 205 tmc as per the interim award of June 25,1991, and the order issued by the tribunal on April 3,1992. "This being so, is it not going against the tribunal's interim award to leave the issue of inflow to be decided by the prime minister?" she asked. Jayalalitha charged the chief minister with double talk, saying one thing before the prime minister in Delhi and something totally different before the media in Madras. She also charged Karunanidhi's cabinet colleagues with issuing statements (relating to the Cauvery dispute) "full of untruths only to hoodwink the people". In the recent meeting of the Cauvery River Water Authority chaired by the prime minister, it had been left to the prime minister to decide as to where exactly the inflow from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu should be reckoned, she said, quoting the DMK organ Murasoli. If the authority was functioning as per the tribunal's interim award, how was it that Karnataka was insisting that the inflow should be measured at Biligundlu which contradicted the award, she asked.
