CM Sailo's party puts up 30 candidatesThe Mizoram Peoples' Conference, a major political party in the state and ally of the Mizo National Front, has announced its list of 30 candidates for the November 25 assembly election. In keeping with its electoral understanding with the MNF, the party has not fielded candidates in the remaining 10 constituencies. While Chief Minister and MPC chairman Brig T Sailo will contest the Mamit seat, the party's working president, Lalhmingthanga, will seek election from Aizawl East. In Sateek constituency, represented by the late MNF supremo and former chief minister Laldenga, the MPC will field Zosangliana as its candidate. Former state finance minister P B Rosanga will seek election from Ngopa constituency and MLA J V Hluna from Aizawl West II. L N Tluanga, former president of the Young Mizo Association, will try his luck from Tlungvel. The MPC, in its earlier incarnation as the Mizoram Janata Dal, had forged an electoral alliance with the Congress in the 1993 assembly poll. The Congress got 16 seats and the MJD eight in that election. The opposition MNF got 14 seats and the remaining two went to independents. UNI |
