BJP will try to make inroads in Mizoram

The Bharatiya Janata Party today released its first list of 12 candidates, including two women, for the Mizoram assembly election.

The BJP also decided its candidates for by-elections in Assam, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh.

In its afternoon session today, the party's central election committee was expected to finalise its nominees for the Madhya Pradesh assembly and for by-elections in Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal.

The party has decided to leave the Sheohar seat in Bihar for the Samata Party and Adampur (Punjab) for the Akali Dal.

The Mizoram list includes 10 Mizos, including the two women, and two Chakmas. The party is fielding the two women in the capital, Aizawl. A retired Indian Administrative Service officer will contest from Sangau. The two Chakma candidates are from Chawngte and Tlabung.

In Assam, the party has fielded district Mahila Morcha president Pramila Goswami from Udharbond constituency. The other candidate in the by-elections is state party executive member Vipulananda Sharma, from Bhabanipur.

The two candidates for by-elections in Bihar are Sudhir Prasad Yadav Chaudhary (Purnea) and youth BJP leader Ramesh Singh (Kodarma).

Jagan Garg is the party's candidate for the by-election to the Agra (East) assembly constituency, which was necessitated by the death of the sitting BJP legislator.
