E-Mail this report to a friend

The Left parties today announced the names of eight candidates for the November 25 assembly election in Delhi.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will put up four candidates, the CPI will contest three seats, and the All-India Forward Bloc one.

Announcing this in New Delhi, the secretaries of the Delhi committees of the CPI-M, the CPI, the AIFB and the Revolutionary Socialist Party said their main objective is to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The BJP has been in power in Delhi for the last five years and at the centre for the past eight months. But it has failed to tackle the price rise, provide electricity and water, and improve law-and-order in Delhi, they said.

The names and constituencies of the CPI -M candidates are Nathu Prasad (Ramnagar, reserved for the scheduled castes), Kunwar Pal (Ambedkar Nagar, SC), Jagdish Manocha (Pahargunj), Som Pal (Patparganj, SC).

The CPI nominees are M M Gope (Gole Market), D P Singh (Mandavali), and Shyam Kali (Mongolpuri, SC).

Ram Pratap Sharma of the Forward Bloc will contest the Karawal Nagar seat.
