IISc denies any involvement in nuclear projectThe Bangalore-based Indian Institute of Science, the premier research institute in the country, has categorically denied press reports that its Supercomputer Education and Research Centre and other facilities were utilised for nuclear weapons research. "We wish to state categorically that the Indian Institute of Science's SERC and its facilities were not used for nuclear weapons of any kind," IISc registrar B R Srinivasa Murthy said in a statement. "Everyone of the computer systems that SERC bought were scrutinised by the United States department of commerce and other relevant agencies, and licence to export was granted only subject to end-use certification. At no time did the IISc deviate from the end-use, either in letter or spirit for any of the systems," he said. UNI |
