Vajpayee refutes allegation that he backed British in 1942
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayeetoday refuted the allegation that he had turned a government approver during the British rule in 1942.
Intervening in the confidence debate in the Lok Sabha, Vajpayee
said such allegations did crop up before every election.
The matter related to the Banteswar case where Justice Wanchoo had 'not indicted him in any manner'. He had never apologised to anyone in connection with that case, he stressed.
Vajpayee appealed to the chair to get all the relevant documents
from Rashtriya Janata Dal president Laloo Prasad Yadav and that he would give his reply. ''I will abide by whatever ruling you give,'' the prime minister told
Speaker Ganti Mohana Chandra Balayogi.
Earlier, during his speech, Laloo Yadav read out some article
from a magazine and wanted the prime minister to 'punish the
author'.
Union Home Minister Lal Kishinchand Advani also refuted the allegation, saying such slanderous allegations were levelled against Vajpayee in the past as well. ''If a false allegation is repeated, it will not become a truth later,'' he contended.
The chair ruled that he would expunge all objectionable
