Marak quits as CLP leaderFormer chief minister and leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Meghalaya, Salseng C Marak resigned from the post Friday evening, party sources said. D D Lapang, who was also a former chief minister, replaced Marak. Former Union minister Santosh Mohan Dev, who came as the All India Congress Committee observer, approved Lapang's appointment as the new CLP leader. Though there was no comment from the Congress camp about the new move, political observers feel this sudden decision was taken by the AICC for Marak's "failure" to make a mark in the just concluded election, and retain the 12-day ministry in the trial of strength.
