Congress hunting around for venue to host AICC session
Tara Shankar Sahayin New Delhi
The Congress Working Committee met today at the All India Congress Committee's Akbar Road headquarters under the presidentship of Sonia Gandhi, to decide the agenda of the AICC meeting to be held on April 6.
Fixing the agenda, it seems, was easy: the main point was the ratification of Sonia's election as party president. But the party ran into unforeseen trouble over the venue for the session.
The party was earlier hopeful of hosting the AICC meet at the Talkatora stadium, but it has now realised that the stadium has already been booked for another function. So, as of now, the party has finalised the date and agenda of the AICC meet; all that remains is to find a place to host the session.
According to party spokesman V N Gadgil, the CWC meet began at 1130 hours and wound up in an hour. Barring A K Antony, Madhavrao Scindia and Lalthanhawla, all other members attended it, he said.
Gadgil said apart from ratifying Sonia's election, the AICC meet would also pass a political resolution summing up the current political situation. The party president is to constitute a committee for drafting the resolution, apart from setting up other committees pertaining to reception, coordination and media.
