Pawar is Congress leader in LS
Former Union defence minister Sharad Pawar and former finance minister Dr Manmohan Singh will head the Congress party in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha wings respectively.
The clearance for the appointments was given by party president Sonia Gandhi soon after her elevation as Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson.
With this appointment, Pawar becomes the leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, giving him the status of a Cabinet minister.
Dr Singh's elevation has ended the leadership race in the Upper House. Congress Working Committee member Pranab Mukherjee was another contender for the post.
