EC reschedules polling in Udhampur due to bad weather
The polling for the Udhampur parliamentary constituency in Jammu and Kashmir has been postponed to March 18 from March
7.
The EC took this decision in view of the 'adverse' weather conditions
prevailing there. The state chief electoral officer as well as the EC observer
and some candidates had reported that the weather prevailing in the constituency, particularly the Doda district, was not conducive for polling.
Snowfall and landslides have made it
impossible for polling parties to reach higher parts of Udhampur, an EC statement said.
The EC, sources said, had crosschecked the reports with the meteorological
department before arriving at the decision.
Meanwhile, the Baramullah and Anantnag constituencies will go for polling
on March 7. The counting
will be conducted on March 9, as decided earlier.
