Things you need to know about BJP nomineesAbout six per cent of the Bharatiya Janata Party's 387 nominees for the general election are women. Thus, ladies will contest from 26 seats while another six seats would go to candidates belonging to the minority communities -- Muslims and Christians. There are 17 doctors and seven ex-army officers on the list. The party will contest the maximum number of seats -- 79 -- in Uttar Pradesh. Next comes Madhya Pradesh with 40 and Andhra Pradesh with 38. Bihar will have 32 BJP nominees while Gujarat and Maharashtra will have 26 each. Rajasthan will see 25 party candidates. Tripura is the only state where the BJP is not fielding any candidate. There will be 13 BJP candidates each in Assam and West Bengal. In the south, Kerala and Karnataka will have 19 and 18 candidates respectively. The other states where the party is contesting are Orissa (9), Delhi (7), Haryana (6), Tamil Nadu (5), Himachal Pradesh (4), Jammu and Kashmir (3) and Punjab (3), Goa (2), Arunachal Pradesh (2) and Meghalaya (2), Andaman (1), Chandigarh (1), Dadra and Nagar Haveli (1), Manipur (1), Mizoram (1) and Nagaland (1).
