Congress nominates former Karnataka CM Veerappa MoilyFormer Karnataka chief minister M Veerappa Moily has been nominated by the Congress to contest the Chikmagalur seat in place of former Union minister D V Taradevi. State Congress president Dharam Singh said Moily's name was cleared by the central leadership late last night. The party had earlier announced Taradevi's candidature for the seat. Dharam Singh said the party would also take a decision on changing the candidates for the Bangalore South and Tumkur seats. Varalakshmi Gundurao, wife of the late chief minister R Gundu Rao, had expressed her inability to contest the Bangalore South seat despite the high command clearing her name. Though the party had already nominated Narayanan from Tumkur, he was likely to be replaced following protests over denial of ticket to former state minister Y K Ramaiah, who had joined the Congress some months ago. The party had also replaced its candidate for Mysore when its member of the dissolved Lok Sabha Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar expressed his inability to seek re-election on health grounds. A Chikkamadu has been nominated to contest the Mysore seat. |
