Shanappa quits JD to join Lok ShakthiThe ruling Janata Dal in Karnataka suffered a major setback on Wednesday when its parliamentary board chairman K B Shanappa quit to join Lok Shakthi. A former minister, Shanappa, considered a close associate of Chief Minister J H Patel, is the first legislator to join the Lok Shakthi directly. The others had all taken the circuitous Rashtriya Navnirman Vedike route. Shanappa said he quit the Dal because he was disgusted with former prime minister H D Deve Gowda's autocratic behaviour. He said he did not care even if he was disqualified from the membership of the legislative council. The Janata Dal, it must be mentioned, has not acted against former ministers Ramesh Jigajinagi and Ajay Kumar Sarnaik though they have filed their nominations as Lok Shakthi candidates for the ensuing election.
