CPI-M will support Congress at the Centre on issues, says SurjeetCommunist Party of India-Marxist general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet said his party would extend issue-based support to the Congress if it formed a government at the Centre. Replying to questions by media-persons, Surjeet said the his party politburo had demanded the immediate resignation of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre. After the rout in the recent assembly elections, it had no moral right to continue in office as the people had rejected it. "For the past eight months since the Vajpayee government assumed office, the entire country has been groaning under severe price rise of all essential commodities. The people have punished the BJP for the unprecedented price rise and protection of big traders who had indulged in hoarding and profiteering ," Surjeet said The Vajpayee government had been seriously damaged by the verdict of the people in the areas where the BJP had been organisationally strong. It had lost moral and political legitimacy to continue in office at the Centre, Surjeet said. UNI |
