Gehlot promises white paper on Rajasthan's economy

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today said his government would issue a white paper on the economic health of the state and take action against hoarders and black marketeers.

Addressing reporters after assuming office at the state secretariat in Jaipur, Gehlot said in his first review meeting with top state government officials, he had directed the officials to prepare the white paper.

Gehlot said officials had also been directed to take effective and appropriate action against hoarders and black marketeers to contain prices.

The chief minister reiterated his resolve to keep up the promises made by the Congress to the people of the state and to give top priority to solving various problems faced by the people, including shortage of drinking water and power supply.

Gehlot said during the eight-year long BJP regime in the state, the development process was hampered and the state had faced reverses.

Gehlot said his government would review the prevailing power situation and would take all possible efforts to increase power generation capacity.

For solution of the water shortage problem, the project of Rajiv Gandhi national drinking water mission would be studied.

He said his government would also ensure delegation of power to panchayati raj institutions and civic bodies, and the officials were asked to prepare a status report and set modalities to implement his government's resolve in this regard.

Gehlot said he was for responsive and clean governance, therefore corruption would not be tolerated at any level and the bureaucracy would be made sensitive and responsive to public needs and problems.

He said that responsibilities of the government officials would also be fixed.
