Madani taken to Coimbatore for further interrogation

People's Democratic Party chairman Abdul Nasser Madani, arrested on the charge of harbouring criminals involved in the Coimbatore serial bomb blasts, was today taken to Coimbatore under heavy armed police escort.

He was taken into custody by the Tamil Nadu police from the Kannur central jail early this morning following an order issued yesterday by the Kozhikode judicial first class magistrate (V) P Madhavan, transferring him to Coimbatore for further investigation into his role in the February 14 bomb blasts.

Tamil Nadu Special Investigation Team chief and Salem deputy police commissioner P Thamaraikannan said Madani would be produced before the Coimbatore judicial first class magistrate (V) who had issued the warrant for him in connection with the terrorist activities.

Two others, Mohammed Ashraf and Subair, who were arrested earlier by the Kozhikode police, were also taken to Coimbatore along with Madani.

Meanwhile, one Ayyappan of Nilambur from Malappuram district of Kerala who was arrested by the police for his alleged involvement in the illegal manufacture and supply of firearms to terrorists, has been remanded to judicial custody till April 21.

Ayyappan is suspected to have supplied over 50 revolvers, mainly to those involved in the Coimbatore serial blasts, one of which was recovered from Ooma Babu alias Majeed who was arrested earlier. He had already been handed over to the Tamil Nadu police for further investigation.
