DMK government will collapse on its own, says Kumaramangalam

Union Power Minister P Rangarajan Kumaramangalam today said there was no necessity for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre to dismiss the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government in Tamil Nadu, as it would fall on its own.

Addressing a press conference in Tiruchirapalli, he said the law and order situation in the state was worsening, and added to this was the power crisis.

On the state government's crackdown on Islamic fundamentalists, the Union minister said it was more an attempt by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to save his government from the charge of negligence. Former Union home secretary K Padmanabaiah had alerted the DMK government about the growing activities of the fundamentalists as early as in the middle of last year, but the DMK government had failed to take action, he charged.

Referring to the murder of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad leader Professor Paramasivam at Madurai on Saturday last, he said the Centre had sought a report from the Tamil Nadu government in this regard.
