RHTDM

Ronjita Das

After Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai, Vashu Bhagnani has come out with another enjoyable film--Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein.

Of course, the film does not boast of an original plot.

It’s the usual story that’s been doing the rounds in Hindi cinema for decades now.

This is it how it goes: Madhav Shastri (Madhavan) is a carefree boy, who has no time for girls. A mechanical engineer who rarely attended college, he was the regular bully, in his college days.

One fine day, he spots Reena (Diya Mirza), and falls head over heels for her.

RHTDM But... there is a catch – she is already engaged.

Of course, everything cannot go against the hero. Reena has never met her fiancé, Rajeev (Saif Ali Khan), since he lives in United States of America.

So the only way Maddy (as he is fondly called) can get close to her is by pretending to be Rajeev. Five days and endless songs later, they fall in love.

But Rajeev returns. And hell breaks lose. To make matters worse, Rajeev turns out to be Maddy’s arch enemy in the good old college days.

What happens next is anyone’s guess.

Even so, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein is different.

The film is much more realistic. College fights are not like gang wars. Even the romance is not excessive and unreasonable. It’s like any typical young couple romancing in Bombay.

The film belongs to Madhavan. He has done an excellent job – whether it’s acting or dancing. He doesn’t look wooden or overact. He is quite good with comedy.

Besides, you would really fall for that sweet innocent smile.RHTDM

Former Miss Asia Pacific Diya Mirza has debuted fairly well. But she should work harder on her emotional scenes.

Saif is wasted.

Anupam Kher repeats his usual ‘father’ act. Tanaz Currim is quite sober, going by her loud standards.

Maddy’s best friend is good with comedy. Of course, there are times when he may irritate you with his loud voice and know-it-all face.

The first half of the film is very racy and entertaining. The second half drags a bit. The film packs in some great humour.

In fact, director Gautam Menon never lets go of comedy even when the film gets serious.

Menon also does a small cameo in the film. As a first time Hindi film director, he has done a commendable job. He seems to have really gotten into the minds of his audience and catered to their needs.

The music in the film is quite decent. But I would have preferred lesser songs, as they are quite indifferent to the narrative. Besides, most of the songs have exceedingly abrupt endings.

Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein may not have any star attraction. But it is definitely entertaining and enjoyable.

If you are feeling low in life, watch the film. You’ll walk out of the theatre, laughing.
