NSE-50 Index

Sensex falls further

Monday, stocks prices registered a further decline on the National Stock Exchange following speculative selling pressure.

Reflecting the bearish phase, the NSE-50 index opened at 1136.80, touched the day's high of 1136.00, declined to a low of 1116.00 and later ended at 1120.80 points.

The Midcap index drifted lower by 11.65 points to 1528.90 against the previous close of 1270.55 points.

The total turnover on the NSE was Rs 16.93 billion.

Tobacco giant ITC stood first in the list of turnover, registering Rs 4.88 billion, followed by Reliance (Rs 4.84 billion), SBI (Rs 1.54 billion) Tata Tea (Rs 1.22 billion) and MTNL (Rs 409.5 million).

Hectic activity was observed at other countries like ACC (Rs 345.5 million), Tisco (Rs 337.3 million), Telco (Rs 303.5 million), Castrol (Rs 185.6 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 187.5 million), ICIC (Rs 110.5 million), L&T (Rs 99.6 million) Hind Lever (Rs 99.4 million), Colgate (Rs 94.3 million), ICIC Bank (Rs 66.1 million), Rel Cap (Rs 53.4 million), BHEL (Rs 51.6 million), Escorts (Rs 46.8 million) Ranbaxy (Rs 44.9 million), Infosys Tech (Rs 44.9 million), Rel Petro (Rs 38.6 million), HDFC Bank (Rs 35.7 million), Hero Honda (Rs 33.53 million) and M&M (Rs 30.6 million).

Thermax, IPCI, M&M, Bajaj Auto and Andhra Valley were the top five gainers. The losers include IDBI, Reliance, L&T, Indo Gulf and HPCL.
