NSE volumes cross Rs 20 bn mark; Nifty gains 9.45 points

Share prices flared up further on the National Stock Exchange on Friday on continued buying support from speculators and local operators.

Reflecting an uptrend, the NSE-50 Index opened at 1168.75 points, touched the day's high of 1181.15 points, declined to the day's low of 1168.70 points and later ended at 1177.80 points respectively, registering a gain of 9.45 points over the previous close of 1168.35 points.

The Midcap Index also closed higher by 14.25 points to 1303.70 points as against Thursday's close of 1289.45 points.

The total turnover on the NSE also crossed the Rs 20 billion and stood at Rs 20.3 billion as against Thursday's Rs 19.1 billion.

Market leader Reliance topped the list of turnover by registering Rs 6.1 billion, followed by ITC Rs 5.4 billion, Tata Tea Rs 2.2 billion, SBI Rs 1.8 billion and TISCO Rs 587 million.

Hectic activity was also observed at the other counters like ACC Rs 446 million, BHEL Rs 412.6 million, Castrol Rs 295.9 million, TELCO Rs 284.6 million, ICICI Rs 276.5 million, Hind Lever Rs 217.4 million, Colgate Rs 178.5 million, Rel Capital Rs 164.5 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 163.4 million, L&T Rs 155.1 million, MTNL Rs 149.9 million, Dr Reddy Rs 140.4 million, Hero Honda Rs 86.8 million, Rel Petro Rs 76.7 million, BSES Rs 62.3 million, LML Rs 61.6 million, Infosys Rs 57.1 million, Satyam Comp Rs 54.9 million, HDFC Bank Rs 53.7 million and Ranbaxy Rs 46.4 million.

Among the top five gainers BHEL gained by 7.03 per cent to Rs 400.60 against Rs 374.30, Cochin Ref up by 4.61 per cent to Rs 163.25 against Rs 156.05, Ranbaxy by Rs 4.48 to Rs 698.65 against Rs 668.70, Ponds up by Rs 2.74 to Rs 2005.70 against Rs 1952.30, and Rel Petro gained by Rs 2.65 to Rs 23.25 against Rs 22.65.

The top five losers of the day were BSES, TELCO, Mahindra and Mahindra, SBI and Tata Power.
