Nifty drops furtherPivotal prices suffered a further setback on sustained selling pressure from financial institutions and bull operators on the National Stock Exchange on Tuesday. The Nifty opened nearly steady at 1156.45 points, touched the day's high of 1158.80 points, low of 1131.00 points and closed at 1137.90 points, suffering a loss of 19.05 points as against its previous close of 1156.95 points. The Midcap Index closed at 1254.60 points over the last trading day's close of 1276.05 points, losing 21.45 points. The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 24.1 billion, involving 75 million trades. The top five gainers were Bajaj Auto by Rs 11 to Rs 600.25, Hind Lever by Rs 24.10 to Rs 1381.70, TISCO by Rs 12 to Rs 176.30, Ranbaxy by Rs 4.15 to Rs 652.35 and TELCO by Rs 1.35 to Rs 337.45. The losers were Reliance Capital by Rs 5.25 to Rs 64.30, ICICI Rs 7.55 to Rs 93.60, Reliance by Rs 30.7 to Rs 399.50, OBC Rs 2.95 to Rs 62.00 and HDFC by Rs 130.35. Hectic trading was witnessed at Reliance (Rs 12.4 billion), ITC (Rs 5 Billion), Tata Tea (Rs 1.1 billion), SBI-N (Rs 1.1 billion), ACC (Rs 643.2 million), TISCO (Rs 620 million), Hind Lever (Rs 343.6 million), Castrol (Rs 320.3 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 306.4 million), ICICI (Rs 299.6 million), TELCO (Rs 161.7 million), Ranbaxy (Rs 143.6 million), MTNL (Rs 137.7 million), L&T (Rs 85.9 million), Satyam Comp (Rs 85.8 million), ICICI Bank (Rs 77.4 million), Colgate (Rs 69 million), BHEL (Rs 67 million), Rel Capital (Rs 64.6 million), Infosys Tech (Rs 58.3 million), BSES (Rs 54 million), HPCL (Rs 41.3 million), Nicholas Pir (Rs 39.2 million), Ponds (Rs 35.8 million), HDFC (Rs 35.3 million).
