Nifty falls 9.1 points in sluggish marketEquity prices fell due to sluggish sentiments on the National Stock Exchange on Wednesday, the first day of the new settlement. The NSE-50 opened at 1123.80 and steadily fell to hit a low of 1102, before recovering to close at 1114.70, showing a loss of 9.1 over the previous close of 1123.80. Similarly, the Midcap Index closed at 1255.30, losing 6.25 points over Tuesday's close of 1261.55 points. The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 13.9 billion. The major gainers were Mangalore Refineries (MRPL), IDBI, and Bajaj Auto. The top losers included Glazo, Mahindra & Mahindra, and HPCL.
