Nifty slips by less than 1 point

Equities drifted lower due to speculative selling pressure on the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the weak trend, the NSE-50 index opened at 1054.80, touched the day's high of 1055.50, low of 1032.95 points, and ended at 1054.15 points, a decrease by 0.65 point over the previous close of 1054.80 points.

The Dollar NSE-50 index closed lower by 1.55 points to 932.60 points against the previous close of 934.15 points. However, the Midcap index firmed up by by 9.15 points to 1162.40 points over the previous close of 1153.25 points.

Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was at Rs 11.42 billion.

ITC topped the list of turnovers by registering the highest business volume of Rs 5 billion, followed by Tata Tea Rs 1.1 billion, State Bank Rs 998.2 million, Reliance Rs 838.1 million and Castrol Rs 422.2 million.

Hectic activity was observed at the other counters led by ACC Rs 359.2 million, Hind Lever Rs 256.8 million, LML Rs 211.8 million, TELCO Rs 194.5 million, L&T Rs 157.9 million, Glaxo Rs 150.9 million, MTNL Rs 147.9 million , TISCO Rs 146.7 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 90.7 million, BHEL Rs 90.3 million, Colgate Rs 85.9 million, Hindalco Rs 72.9 million, BSES Rs 69.7 million, P&G Rs 56.2 million, ICICI Rs 53.8 million, BPL Rs 48.5 million, Rel Petro Rs 47.6 million, Corp Bank Rs 45.8 million, HPCL Rs 42.8 million and IPCL Rs 40.6 million.

Among the gainers, Rel Petro firmed up by 9.86 per cent to Rs 23.40, Reliance Industries increased by 6.70 per cent to Rs 60.50, Orient Bank up by 6.29 per cent to Rs 59.95, Glaxo gained by 5.28 per cent to Rs 415.10 and Grasim moved up by 3.88 per cent to Rs 355.65.

Among the losers, IDBI lost by 4.81 per cent to Rs 89.05, TELCO down by 2.88 per cent to Rs 273.50, ITC dropped by 2.18 per cent to Rs 606.40, BSES lost by 2.07 per cent to Rs 172.80 and HDFC down by 1.70 per cent to Rs 78.15.
