Nifty shoots up 23 pointsThe market opened on a buoyant note on the National Stock Exchange and pivotals firmed up on buying support from institutional investors. Reflecting the bullish phase, the NSE-50 index opened at 1028.45, touched the day's high of 1053.40 and ended at 1051.40 points, netting a gain of 23 points over the previous close of 1028.40 points. The Dollar NSE-50 index moved up by 21.20 points to 930.35 points as against the previous close of 909.15 points, while the Midcap closed higher by 16.60 points to 1160.75 points over the previous close of 1144.15 points. Total turnover reported during the day was Rs 14.76 billion. ITC stood first in terms of business volume by registering the highest turnover of Rs 6.6 billion, followed by Tata Tea Rs 1.5 billion, State Bank Rs 1.3 billion, reliance Rs 1.1 billion and Hind Lever Rs 59.08 million. Hectic activity was observed at the other counters like Castrol Rs 549.8 million, ACC Rs 409 million, MTNL Rs 408.3 million, Colgate Rs 367.9 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 305.6 million, P&G Rs 178.6 million , TELCO Rs 176.1 million, BHEL Rs 152.9 million, TISCO Rs 130 million, Corp Bank Rs 116 million, BSES Rs 111.6 million, L&T Rs 69.4 million, Ponds Rs 41.6 million, Wart De Rs 36.7 million, Infosys Tech Rs 35 million, HDFC Rs 32.4 million, Smith Kline Rs 30 million, IPCL 27 million, LML Rs 23.9 million and ICICI Rs 20.5 million. Among the gainers, BSES up by 5.64 per cent to Rs 165.80, MTNL increased by 5.14 per cent to Rs 262.80, HDFC moved up by 4.96 per cent to Rs 3071.30, IPCL firmed up by 4.35 per cent to Rs 64.70 and ACC gained by 4.07 per cent to Rs 1341.65. Among the losers, Andhra Valley dropped by 1.38 per cent to Rs 78.35, Cochin Ref fell by 0.94 per cent to Rs 158.55, TELCO lost by 0.47 per cent to Rs 284.10, M&M dropped by 0.07 per cent to Rs 303.45 and Ind Hotel declined by 0.06 per cent to Rs 613.40.
