Nifty declines gradually

Pivotals witnessed a gradual decline in a dull trading on the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the trend, the NSE-50 Index opened at 973.70 points and touched the day's high of 979.10, declined to the day's low of 963.85 and later closed at 965.15 points, showing a net loss of 8.50 points over the previous close of 973.65 points.

The Dollar NSE-50 Index closed lower by 8.45 points to 846.60 points as against 855.05 points. The Midcap Index also fell by 8.45 points to 1090.30 points as against 1098.75 points respectively.

Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was at Rs 16.3 billion. ITC topped the list of turnover by registering highest turnover at Rs 8.7 billion, followed by Reliance Rs 2.1 billion, SBI Rs 1.3 billion, Tata Tea Rs 1.1 billion and ACC Rs 563.6 million.

Hectic activity was observed at the other counters like Castrol Rs 536.9 million, TISCO Rs 291.7 million, TELCO Rs 257.4 million, Hind Lever Rs 164.4 million, Infosys Tech Rs 164.3 million, Colgate Rs 151.8 million, MTNL Rs 100.4 million, BHEL Rs 97 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 86.7 million, L and T Rs 61.5 million, Guj Amb Cem Rs 47.6 million, P and G Rs 44 million, Corp Bank Rs 36.5 million, HPCL Rs 33.4 million, Orient Bank Rs 32.8 million, LML Rs 30.6 million, NIIT Rs 27.8 million, Hero Honda Rs 27.6 million, Satyam Comp Rs 26.6 million and BSES Rs 18.9 million.

Among the top gainers, Castrol gained by 2.12 per cent to Rs 673.70, Ashok Leyland increased by 1.84 per cent to Rs 38.75, TVS Suzuki up by 1.81 per cent to Rs 447, MRPL up by 1.59 per cent to Rs 19.20 and TELCO increased by 1.49 per cent to Rs 268.70.

The top losers includes Hindalco which lost by 5.85 per cent to Rs 709.45, Arvind Mills fell by 4.42 per cent to Rs 82.25, M and M dropped by 4.03 per cent to Rs 290.90, Reliance declined by 3.62 per cent to Rs 150.45 and IPCL dropped by 3.27 per cent to Rs 63.50.
