Mixed day sees Nifty end 1.75 points higherA mixed trend was witnessed on the National Stock Exchange today as equity prices fluctuated marginally during the trading. The foreign institutional investors sold good amount of pivotal shares. However, domestic institutions bought considerably at the fag end of the day. The NSE-50 Index opened at 971.70 points, high touch of 978.80 points low at 943 points and closed at 973.65 points showing a gain of 1.75 points as against its previous close of 971.90 points. The dollar NSE-50 Index closed at 855.05 points over the yesterday's close of 863.40 points, losing 8.35 points. The Midcap Index finished at 1098.75 points as compared to last trading day's close of 1110.60 points, declining by 11.85 points. The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 20.3 billion involving 66.3 million shares. The top gainers were ITC, ACC, Gujarat Ambuja Cement, TELCO and TISCO and the losers were Mahindra and Mahindra, Hindalco, ABB, HPCL and Arvind Mills. Hectic trading was witnesed at ITC (Rs 10.7 billion), Tata Tea (Rs 2.1 billion), SBI-N (Rs 1.7 Billion), RIL (Rs 1.7 billion), ACC (Rs 619.1 million), Castrol (Rs 428 million), TELCO (Rs 407.4 million), Hind Lever (Rs 378.2 million), TISCO (Rs 292.1 million), MTNL (Rs 250.3 million), Infosys Tech (Rs 147.6 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 139.9 million), BHEL (Rs 129.3 million), Colgate (Rs 127.8 million), L and T (Rs 127.6 million), Satyam Comp (Rs 99.8 million), P and G (Rs 96.1 million), Hero Honda (Rs 62 million), M and M (Rs 54.4 million), BSES (Rs 53.3 million), Corp Bank (Rs 52.8 million), LML (Rs 50.2 million), Oriental Bank (Rs 40.5 million), Pentsfware (Rs 38.4 million) and NIIT (Rs 36.1 million) counters.
