Nifty down by 2.85 pointsPivotals moved in a narrow range, on account of alternate bouts of buying and selling on the National Stock Exchange today. Reflecting the trend, the NSE-50 Index opened at 1033.15, touched the day's high of 1041.25 points, declined to day's low of 1024.85 points and later closed at 1029.80 points, showing a net loss of 2.85points over the previous close of 1032.65 points. Similarly, the Dollar NSE-50 "Defty" Index drifted lower by 3.30 points to 908.20 points over the previous close of 911.50 points, while the Midcap Index registered a decline of 4.05 points to 1158.10 points as against the previous close of 1162.15 points. The total turnover reported during the day was Rs 16.7 billion. ITC registered the highest turnover at Rs 8.3 billion, followed by SBI in Rs 1.9 billion, Tata Tea Rs 1.2 billion, Reliance Rs 1.2 billion and Castrol Rs 610.2 million. Hectic activity was also observed at the other counters led by ACC Rs 604.6 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 389.6 million, Telco Rs 363.6 million, MTNL Rs 246.7 million, BHEL Rs 22.82 million, Hind Lever Rs 220.8 million, TISCO Rs 147.6 million, Ponds Rs 127 million, Colgate Rs 81.7 million, Satyam Comp Rs 78.1 million, P&G Rs 64.2 million, L&T Rs 58.9 million, BSES Rs 41.2 million, LML Rs 38.5 million, Infosys Tech Rs 35.5 million, Mastek Rs 28.1 million, Hero Honda Rs 26.6 million, ICICI Rs 25.4 million, Ranbaxy Rs 24.2 million, Soft Solint Rs 21.6 million. Among the top gainers, Ponds went up by 4.47 per cent to Rs 970.15, Glaxo increased by 3.83 per cent to Rs 378.15, GE Shipping gained by 3.25 per cent to Rs 1240.15 and ITC firmed up by 1.40 per cent to Rs 596.10. Among the losers, MRPL lost by 4.42 per cent to Rs 18.40, TELCO down by 2.96 per cent to Rs 293.85, Tata Tea dropped by 2.74 per cent to Rs 362.40, ABB moved down by 2.68 per cent to Rs 507.40 and Arvind Mills down by 2.38 per cent to Rs 92.45.
