NSE-50 Index

Mixed sentiments at NSE

The market witnessed a mixed sentiment on the National Stock Exchange with alternate bouts of buying and selling today. However, pivotals gained over their previous closing levels following moderate buying support from institutional investors.

Reflecting the trend, the NSE-50 Index opened at 1023.85 points, touched the day's high of 1033.90, declined to the day's low of 1008.45 points and later ended at 1032.65 points, showing a net gain of 8.70 points over the previous close of 1023.95 points.

The Midcap Index gained by 2.95 points to 1162.15 points as against the previous close of 1159.20 points. The dollar NSE-50 index, however, declined by 8.05 points to 911.50 points against the previous close of 919.55 points.

The total turnover on the NSE was Rs 12.5 billion. ITC registered the highest turnover at Rs 5.1 billion, followed by State Bank of India (N) Rs 1.8 billion, Reliance Rs 1.2 billion, Tata Tea Rs 1.1 billion and Castrol Rs 539 million.

Hectic activity was observed at the other counters like TELCO Rs 453.8 million, Bajaj Auro Rs 326.9 million, ACC Rs 295.7 million, MTNL Rs 237.2 million, BHEL Rs 167.4 million, TISCO Rs 154.5 million, Hind Lever Rs 121.5 million, Colgate Rs 117 million, P&G Rs 109.5 million, Ponds Rs 73.9 million, L&T Rs 70.1 million, Infosys Tech Rs 54.6 million, LML Rs 51.7 million, ICICI Rs 49.8 million, Satyam Comp Rs 39.2 million, BSES Rs 25.1 million, Hero Honda Rs 16.8 million, Concor Rs 16 million, Rel Cap Rs 15.9 million and HPCL Rs 12.6 million.

Among the gainers, BHEL gained by 4.22 per cent to Rs 353.35, Bajaj Auto firmed up by 4.16 per cent to Rs 631.65 from Rs 606.45, SBI went up by 3.70 per cent to Rs 227.05 from Rs 218.95, MTNL increased by 2.92 per cent to Rs 236.10 from 229.40 while ICICI gained by 2.26 per cent to Rs 74.50 from Rs 72.85.

Among the losers, MRPL declined by 5.64 per cent to Rs 19.25 from Rs 20.40, TELCO fell by 3.61 per cent to Rs 302.80 from Rs 314.15, ABB down by 2.82 per cent to Rs 521.35 from Rs 536.50, Hindalco dropped by 2.07 per cent to Rs 816.70 from Rs 834.00 while Colgate eased by 1.84 per cent to Rs 258.55 from Rs 263.40.
