Market@March 9: Day's report

Panic prevailed in tech stocks throughout the day. Himachal, DSQ Software, NIIT, SSI, Global Tele lost 16 per cent each. Satyam, Pentamedia, Silverline, Wipro, and HCL Tech lost more than 11 per cent. The fall in Infosys, Digital Equipment, and other software stocks was also alarming.

The old economy counters also remained under strong selling pressure, and lost heavily. Reliance, ITC however managed to restrict their losses to less than 2 per cent and maintain the Sensex. Trading volume remained low.

BSE closed at 14:00 IST as the badla session was advanced to Friday afternoon because of a holiday on Saturday on account of Holi. NSE closes at 16:00 IST.

Sensex down 175 points at 3882. Nifty closed 38 points lower at 1254.
