Market@January 4: Day's report

The software stocks remained in great demand on account of a sharp rally on Nasdaq. Satyam and Wipro gained more than 10 per cent. Infosys, DSQ Soft and Himachal also gained smartly.

On the other hand, old economy stocks remained under pressure, and stocks like L&T, ITC, ACC, Bhel, Grasim, Tisco, MTNL and SBI dipped sharply. HLL remained strong for a major part of the day.

Sensex up 51 points at 4111, Nifty up 14 points at 1305 points.
