Market@April 19: Day's report

After an extremely bullish opening, software stocks remained volatile for a major part of the day. Global, Zee and SSI hit 16 per cent upper circuit. Satyam, Infosys, Digital and Pentamedia gained more than 7 per cent each.

NIIT however lost nearly 31 per cent from the day's high. It was down 16 per cent.

Reliance was the star performer amongst old economy counters, gaining 12 per cent. Grasim, SBI, Tisco, Ranbaxy, Bhel, Reliance Capital and Nestle also recorded impressive gains.

The trading volume was significantly higher on both exchanges.

Sensex up 135 points at 3574. Nifty up 41 points at 1144.

Gainers: Between 5 per cent and 7.89 per cent
Infosys, Pentamedia, Digital, Bank of Baroda, Nestle, Padmini Tech, Nirma, E Merck, Hind Zinc, RS Software, Kopran.

Losers: Between 7.9 per cent and 16 per cent
