Market@April 17: Day's report

The software stocks remained extremely volatile on Tuesday. After a strong first half, values dipped sharply during the second half of the day. Few counters managed to show impressive gains.

Global and Pentamedia hit 16 per cent upper band. Wipro, Digital, NIIT, SSI, HCL Tech, DSQ Software and Silverline also gained more than 8 per cent each.

Among the old economy counters, ACC, Bhel, BPCL, Tisco, SBI, Gujarat Ambuja, Telco, Ranbaxy, Cipla, HPCL and Hidalco recorded impressive gains.

The overall trading volume was relatively higher on both exchanges.

Sensex up 60 points at 3312. Nifty up 22 points at 1067.

  • Open: 1044.85

Satyam, Infosys, Reliance, Wipro, Zee.

Gainers: Between 7.9 per cent and 16 per cent
Wipro, Silverline, Global, Digital, Pentamedia, DSQ Bio, HCL Info, Bhel, Vikas WSP, India Cements, Sterlite Optical, Ashok Leyland.

Gainers: Between 5 per cent and 7.89 per cent
NIIT, DSQ Software, SSI, HCL Tech, Telco, Gujarat Ambuja, VSNL, Sonata Software, Cipla, Jaiprakash, BPCL, HPCL, ICICI Bank, SCI.

Losers: Between 7.9 per cent and 16 per cent
Balaji Tele, Aztec Soft, Jindal Online, Godrej Soaps.

Losers: Between 5 per cent and 7.89 per cent
Carrier Aircon, GV Films, Vision Tech, Mobile Tele, Denim Ent.
