Market@September 4: Day's report

After a long time, the software stocks opened on a strong note in the morning and remained in good demand for a major part of the day. Global Tele, Sterlite, Satyam and Zee Tele were the star performers of the day.

Global Tele gained nearly 13 per cent, Satyam and Sterlite gained more than 9 per cent each.

Other software stocks like Himachal, SSI, Wipro, Pentamedia, Dig Equipment, and Rolta also recorded handsome gains.

In the non-software segement, Reliance remained strong and gained nearly 6 per cent. HLL, SBI and L&T also remained firm. However, ITC, Ranbaxy, Telco and MTNL showed a negative close.

Sensex up 126 points at 4603, Nifty up 35 points at 1429.
