Presidential nod for 13 legislations passed by Parliament

Eighteen legislations, including the Finance Bill and Railway Appropriation Bill, passed during the Budget session of Parliament have received presidential assent.

A total of 24 bills were passed by Parliament, while another 36 were introduced out of the 41 ready for introduction.

The five bills that were ready but could not be introduced were the three reorganisation bills relating to Uttaranchal, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, the Freedom of Information Bill and the Border Security (Amendment) Bill.

Some of the other bills that have received presidential assent are the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Amendment) Bill, the Recovery of Debts Due to Banks and Financial Institutions (Amendment) Bill, the Small Industries Development Bank of India (Amendment) Bill, the Mizoram University Bill, the Food Corporations (Amendment) Bill, and the Sugarcane Control (Additional Powers) Repeal Bill.

Bills awaiting presidential assent include the Information Technology Bill, two constitutional amendments (89th and 91st), Designs Bill, Direct Tax Laws (Miscellaneous) Repeal Bill, the National Housing (Amendment) Bill, and the bills relating to the salaries of Members of Parliament, or MPs, and the whips of recognised parties and groups.
