Market@May 17: Day's reportPrices opened firm in the morning and gained further strength. In the first one hour, a large number of software stocks hit the upper circuit. However, panic selling gripped the software sector during the last one hour of trading, and almost all the software counters lost their early gains. In fact, many stocks showed a negative close. Himachal Futuristic hit the lower 8 per cent circuit. However, Reliance, ITC and key refinery stocks remained in demand. Trading volumes were compartively high. Satyam Computer, Infosys, Zee Tele, Silverline, and Reliance topped the volume charts accouting for 53 per cent of total trading volume. BSE Sensex closed 18 points higher at 4230 points while NSE closed nine points higher at 1308 points. ITC, Hindustan Lever, Satyam Computer and Zee closed strong. Sensex
